Hi
This page on my Database Answers Web Site discusses different types of Data Models and shows examples of 3rd Normal Form and Dimensional Models :-
http://www.databaseanswers.org/types_of_data_models.htm
The 3NF follows the original rules of Ted Codd, which are summarised on this page :-
http://www.databaseanswers.org/codds_normal_forms.htm
One benefit of following the Teradata Best Practice of having 3NF Data Warehouse is that it helps to guarantee a 'Single View of the Truth'.
On the other hand, a Dimension Model, whether star or snowflake, is designed with Dimensions and Facts.
Dimensions are things like Time Periods, Locations and Products.
Facts are totals, averages, percentages and so on.
