Starting DBS on amazon ec2 - forum topic by vganti

I have an instance of Teradata 14 running on amazon ec2. It is refusing connections to query the database. Perhaps because DBS is not running as per the output of pdestate
 
pdestate -a
PDE state is RUN/READY.
DBS state is 0/-1: DBS is not running
 
I can't figure out how to start DBS and whether that is the reason for connections being refused.
